The Process Design Engineer (CPM) provides process development and design for small and medium capital investment projects for Fawley Chemicals. The incumbent provides technical support as required during Project Execution and Commissioning working with a team of engineers covering problem identification, process selection, design and start-up of projects ranging from $100K to $20M.

| Main Tasks & Responsibilities | Work closely with Business Units at Fawley to define alternatives, produce project design basis and front-end engineering design deliverables for capital and expense investment projects typically up to $20M. This will include preparation of Heat and Material Balances, existing equipment design checks and new equipment design specification (reactors, fractionation towers, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, fired heaters, safety systems, hydraulic balances), checks on safety facilities and plant integrity assessment, specification of materials of construction (in conjunction with mechanical and materials specialists), specification of control system and Emergency Instrumentation philosophies;
Provide Process Design follow-up support to engineering contractor’s organisation through detailed engineering phase;
Provide field start-up process engineering support during commissioning;
Provide operating unit troubleshooting support;
Conduct technical Studies, e.g. Refinery heat integration optimisation studies, and process unit debottlenecking studies;
Carry out/support plant integrity assessment (HAZOP) program.

| Qualifications | Chartered Engineer or Graduate Chemical Engineer working towards Chartered status;
5+ years experience in process support and project development and design; petrochemical industry experience with either an operating company or a major process engineering contractor would be desirable.

| Knowledge & Skills | Expert in process design key functional skill base as follows:
Simulation tools (PRO-II or equivalent) to develop design heat and material balances and for process optimisation;
Development of process specifications for equipment (vessels, fractionation towers, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, safety systems);
Hydrocarbon processing knowledge (petroleum development/refining/ petrochemical) preferred;
In-depth knowledge of refining processes preferred;
Leadership/management skills including adaptability, analytical capability, initiating action plans, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, honesty and integrity, drive and perseverance with a commitment to the highest of standards;
Good English communication skills, written and verbal.
